Savannah Guthrie will be leaving the Today show “for the time being” amid a desperate search for her mother, Nancy Guthrie, sources tell Page Six.
The journalist, 54, remains in Tucson, Arizona, as the search for her 84-year-old mother enters its 15th day. Naturally, this led to rumors about her future on the NBC morning TV show, where she has been co-anchor since July 2012.
“The entire program and network stands together to support our beloved colleague and friend as we navigate these unimaginable times,” an NBC source told Page Six.
Page Six was informed in October 2024 that Savannah still had more than a year left on her $7 million-a-year contract, meaning her contract was up for renewal.
But those who know her say it is “hurtful” to discuss the morning host’s future at a time like this.
“Everyone at Today is taking this situation day by day and of course giving Savannah the grace, time and support she needs,” a source said, adding that “everyone is constantly praying” for a resolution.
Former Savannah co-anchor Hoda Kotb will reportedly take the prosecutor’s seat again this week.
Kotb, 61, like Savannah’s current co-anchor Craig Melvin, remained in the United States instead of going to Milan, Italy, to help lead the Winter Olympics.
Page Six reached out to Savannah’s representatives for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
Nancy was last seen on January 31st, after her daughter Annie and son-in-law Tommaso Cioni dropped her off at her home in Tucson after their daily dinner.
The next morning, police were notified that the elder had gone missing after failing to attend church services.
During the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance, authorities found bloodstains in Nancy’s home.
Last week, the FBI released horrifying home security camera photos of an armed, masked figure who appeared outside Nancy’s door the night she disappeared.
Video and photos show the man standing on Nancy’s doorstep wearing gloves while tampering with Nancy’s door camera.
After the suspect’s image was released, Savannah posted it on Instagram, pleading for her mother’s safe return.
Several people have been detained in connection with the incident, but they were released after it was proven that they were not involved in Nancy’s disappearance. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos acknowledged that the search for Nancy could take “many years.”
Arizona State Police are currently flying over the Tucson Desert with Bluetooth signal detectors to detect signals from pacemakers in elderly people.
