The producers behind Broadway’s biggest night are in a state of turmoil.
Tony Awards Productions has announced that Raj Kapoor, Sarah Levine Hall and Jack Sussman will serve as executive producers for the upcoming 79th Tony Awards, which will be held again at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 7th.
Mr. Kapoor, an Emmy Award-winning live events veteran, will be attending the Tony Awards for the first time. Emmy Award winner Levine Hall and Sussman, a longtime CBS executive and live events producer, bring deep Tony and broadcast experience to the team. Kapoor and Levine Hall will serve as co-showrunners.
“The 79th Tony Awards are in extraordinary hands,” American Theater Wing President and CEO Heather Hitchens and Broadway League President Jason Lux said in a joint statement. “With their unparalleled expertise in live events and bold creative vision, this team will take the broadcast to new heights, building on last year’s record-breaking telecast while delivering a show that is fresh, contemporary and perfectly reflects the ever-evolving spirit of Broadway.”
“As former theater kids, it is a great honor to step into the role of executive producer for the 79th Tony Awards,” said Kapoor, Hall and Sussman. “There’s nothing like recreating the magic of live theater on a global stage. Our team is committed to bringing audiences closer to the creativity, innovation, and heart that define Broadway.”
Mr. Kapoor’s resume includes nine recent Academy Awards telecasts, 12 Grammy Awards, and an Emmy Award for executive producing the “96th Oscars” and “Adele: One Night Only.” He currently serves as showrunner and executive producer for the upcoming 98th Oscar Awards and the most recent 68th Grammy Awards. Levine Hall has won 19 Tony Awards and an Emmy Award at the Oscars in 2024. Mr. Sussman was vice president of specials, music and live events for CBS Entertainment, where he oversaw the network’s Grammy and Tony Awards broadcasts for more than 20 years.
The deadline for eligibility for the 2025-2026 Broadway season is April 26, 2026, and nominations will be announced on May 5. The awards ceremony will be broadcast live nationwide on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
