Kenan Thompson and Lamorne Morris team up for a new action comedy based on the popular QCode podcast “Unwanted.”
Morris and his longtime creative partner Kyle Shevlin wrote and directed the original series, which topped the fiction podcast charts upon its 2021 release. “Unwanted” centers on two perverts who attempt to capture a convicted murderer on the run and claim a $1 million bounty. But that plan quickly falls apart, as the logline explains, proving dangerously unprepared for the ensuing chaos.
Production on the film is directed by Richie Keene (Ghost, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Fist Fight) and is scheduled to begin production this summer. Morris and Shevlin wrote the screenplay and will produce the project in conjunction with Thompson and John Ryan Jr.’s Artist for Artists (AFA) company through their 11 Below banner.
Carter Swan, Billy Magnussen (who co-stars opposite Morris on the podcast), QCode’s Rob Harting, Ben Curtis and Nick Shanks are also producing. Jonathan Davino will serve as executive producer.
Morris announced the project in development during an episode of his and Shevlin’s podcast, “The Lamorning After,” in which Thompson was a guest. You can watch the entire episode below.
Morris, who won an Emmy for FX’s Fargo, will next be seen opposite Nicolas Cage in Prime Video’s live-action Spider Noir series, and is currently in production on Jumanji 4. In addition to “The Morning After,” Morris hosts the “New Girl” rewatch podcast “The Mess Around,” with former castmate Hannah Simone.
Thompson continues his tenure as the longest-running cast member of “Saturday Night Live,” currently in its 51st season. The Emmy Award winner also co-hosts and produces Prime Video’s weekly sports series “Good Sports” with Kevin Hart. On the film front, Thompson most recently reteamed with Kel Mitchell in Paramount+’s highly anticipated Good Burger 2, and the longtime duo will next star in the horror comedy Keenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein.
Morris is repped by Entertainment 360, CAA, The Lede Company and Myman Greenspan. Mr. Thompson is repped by Range Media Partners. Keen is repped by CAA and Artists First.
