Jill Zarin was fired for simply saying what half the nation, including the president, was thinking, a source close to the reality star has revealed.
Just a few days ago, Page Six revealed that the reality TV veteran is joining an exciting project that will see the classic cast of The Real Housewives of New York return to TV in an all-new show.
But on Sunday night, Zarin posted a video online in which he said of Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show, “We all agree, it was the worst halftime show of all time. Now that we’re celebrating our 250th anniversary in the United States, I don’t think it’s appropriate to do it in Spanish.”
She added that the performance “looked like a political statement because there were literally no white people in the whole thing.”
On Tuesday, Variety reported that E!, the network that was scheduled to air “The Golden Age,” fired her from the show.
Sources close to Zarin told Page Six that they were disappointed in the move, as Zarin’s views were widely held.
“A lot of people weren’t happy with the Bad Bunny show,” said a source familiar with Zarin’s thinking. “There was a video going viral of Megyn Kelly condemning it. Whether you liked him or not, the president of the United States condemned it.”
After Sunday’s performance in the Seahawks-Patriots game, President Trump called the Spanish-dominated performance a “slap in the face” for the United States, saying, “The Super Bowl halftime show is absolutely awful, one of the worst in history! It makes no sense, it’s an insult to the greatness of America, and it doesn’t represent our standards of success, creativity, and excellence. No one can understand a word this man is saying.”
Meanwhile, Kelly racked up millions of views with a scathing video in which she called the show a “middle finger” to Americans.
“E! completely overreacted,” a source said. “They would have been fine if they had waited a week. The show will not be on the air for nine months.”
Sources say Zarin’s representatives even suggested E! Use the drama around the post for the first episode of a new show.
“Jill said what half the country was saying, and she was fired for it,” they added.
