Six-time Emmy nominee Anna Chlumsky, who won an Emmy for her role in Veep, has signed on to star opposite Leslie Bibb, nominated for Best Actor for her role in The White Lotus, in the Cold War crime series Top of the Rock from leading Icelandic production company True North, in collaboration with Mystery Productions and Virtue.
Set in 1983 at the height of Cold War paranoia, the series follows Captain Diane Goodman (Bibb), a US military police investigator, and Sarah Ellis (Chlumsky), a member of Congress, who are stationed at the NATO base in Keflavik, where a US soldier is found dead under suspicious circumstances outside the base. Forced to work closely with the Icelandic police, Goodman and Ellis uncover a web of espionage, betrayal, and political deceit – caught between duty and diplomacy, the two women must navigate a dangerous secret network before more lives are lost.
Produced by Daviz Oskar Olafsson (The Valhalla Murders, Trom) and Jon Atli Jonasson (Arctic, The Deep), and co-produced by Ragnar Jonsson (Black Sands), the six-part drama will be directed by Olafsson and written by Jonasson and Ettar M. “Top of the Rock” is produced by Kristin Thordersson, Olafsson and Agust Frei Ingason, and executive produced by Leifur B. Dagfinnsson, CEO and founder of Truenorth.
The production is developed and financed by Truenorth, Mystery Productions and Vertu, with Baradal/Frédéric Pittoors d’Haveskercke and Lumière as principal partners. Casting was led by Emmy Award-winning casting director Alexa L. Vogel (True Detective, Ozark, Smoke, Black Rabbit), who also serves as an executive producer on the series.
Truenorth is one of Scandinavia’s leading production companies, with over 20 years of experience working on studio-backed titles such as True Detective Season 4, Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning and The Northman. ‘Top of the Rock’ and previously announced ‘Fury’ are the next installments in True North’s expanding line of internationally oriented original projects.
