Baby Yoda made his Super Bowl debut.

Disney’s Lucasfilm released a new trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu during Sunday night’s Big Game. And the Star Wars spinoff is giving fans another glimpse of Pedro Pascal’s armored bounty hunter and his diminutive sidekick. The 37-second spot features Mando and Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) traveling through the snow while being pulled by Tauntaun. They look like Hoth, the ice plant that first appeared in 1980’s “The Empire Strikes Back.”

“Grogu is more than just a character, he’s a pop culture phenomenon. Riding alongside the heroic Mandalorian brings lightness, humor, joy and an instant emotional connection that transcends the moment,” said Jackson George, executive vice president of creative marketing at Disney. “This Big Game Spot celebrates how deeply we love and connect with these characters, reminds us of the fun, heart and spectacle that characterizes ‘Star Wars,’ and promises bite-sized portions of the experience audiences will get when they see these two beloved icons on the big screen.”

The Mandalorian and Grogu, directed by Jon Favreau, is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 22nd. The film, a sequel to Disney+’s hit series The Mandalorian, follows Din Djarin (aka Mando) and Grogu (formerly known as the Child) as they navigate a galaxy still recovering from the fall of the Empire. According to the official logline, the story takes place after the fall of the Galactic Empire, and its generals are still scattered across the galaxy. The fledgling New Republic seeks help from a legendary bounty hunter and his young protégé, working to protect what the Rebellion fought for.

In addition to Pascal and the diminutive, Force-sensitive Grogu, the cast also includes Sigourney Weaver as a skilled fighter pilot, Jeremy Allen White as Jabba the Hutt’s rebellious son Lotta, and Johnny Coyne as a ruthless Imperial general. Fans will also see cameos from popular Star Wars characters Bab Frik and Zeb Orrelios.

Ryan Stankevich, Lucasfilm’s head of marketing and branding, said he wants a Super Bowl spot that “immediately feels iconic, cinematic and quintessentially Star Wars.”

“Our creative and marketing team came up with a unique concept that pays homage to classic big game spots of the past,” Stankevich said. “This production captures the warmth, humor and emotional connection between these two beloved characters and was the perfect next step for our campaign, which will debut on screen this summer.”
