Nancy Guthrie’s home secured by local police

Nancy Guthrie’s home will be guarded by local police, the latest development in the swirl of speculation surrounding the fate of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie’s mother.

In a statement released Sunday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office said it “continues to have a security presence at Nancy Guthrie’s residence.” The statement came after police were seen searching the area around Nancy Guthrie’s home and Savannah Guthrie and her siblings released a video statement Saturday night saying they were willing to pay a ransom for their mother’s return.

Officials said the new security arrangements were made “at the request of the Guthrie family.”

A message sent Saturday sparked new speculation about Nancy Guthrie’s well-being. “We received your message and we understand it,” Savannah Guthrie said in the video, flanked by her siblings Annie and Camron. “We now ask you to return our mother to us and celebrate with us. This is the only way we can have peace. This is very precious to us and we will pay.”

Nancy Guthrie went missing from her Arizona home on January 31, and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that her disappearance will be treated as a crime. Sheriff Chris Nanos told CBS that investigators found “very concerning” evidence at the home.

On Thursday, the FBI, which is also investigating Nancy Guthrie’s alleged kidnapping, offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to her recovery and/or the arrest and conviction of those involved in her disappearance.
