President Donald Trump has claimed that investigators are very close to solving the kidnapping of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie.
On Friday night, President Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that significant progress was being made in the investigation and a suspect may be arrested.
According to TMZ, when a journalist specifically asked if anyone had been identified as a suspect, Trump responded, “Yes, it could be definitive.”
He also said investigators had “very strong” leads. He believes “we might get some answers fairly soon.”
And he clarified that he was not referring to a search, but a “solution” to the ongoing case.
“A lot has happened in the last few hours. A lot has happened regarding that terrible situation,” he concluded.
However, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office told Page Six, “At this time, investigators have not identified any suspects, persons of interest, or vehicles involved in this incident.”
The update comes less than 24 hours after reports said authorities were considering another possible ransom note related to Nancy’s case.
The message was shared with KOLD 13 News, a local media outlet in Arizona. However, the newspaper did not provide further details about the contents of the memo.
Nancy, 84, was reported missing after missing a church service on Sunday.
The Today show co-anchor’s mother was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday when she was dropped off at home after having dinner with her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, and her daughter, Annie Guthrie. Investigators believe Nancy was abducted while she was sleeping.
On Monday, authorities announced that Nancy’s home was being treated as a crime scene. And earlier this week, police responded to reports of a “possible ransom note” after multiple media outlets, including TMZ, reported receiving the letter.
At the time, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office said it was “following every lead” it received and “sharing all leads with the FBI.”
The Bureau of Investigation has noted multiple times in recent days that the organization “continues to offer rewards of up to $50,000 for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie and the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance.”
