An Arizona news organization has received a new message regarding the Nancy Guthrie case, the news organization reported Friday.
Tucson’s KOLD 13 News did not provide further details in the report, but the Pima County Sheriff’s Office released a new statement.
“The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department are aware of additional messages regarding Nancy Guthrie,” the statement said. “Investigators are actively testing the authenticity of the information provided in the messages.”
They added, “While this is new information, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Office continue to encourage anyone with information to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.”
They concluded their statement by noting that the FBI is still offering “a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of those involved in her disappearance.”
A Pima County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson told Page Six on Friday that “detectives continue to conduct follow-up investigations in and around the home,” adding, “The road in front of the home is currently closed to provide our investigators with the space they need to conduct their work.”
NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother was reported missing on Sunday, February 1st, after failing to show up for a church service.
Sheriff Chris Nanos has said investigators believe Nancy was abducted while she was sleeping, but said Thursday that authorities are “actively investigating all” as suspects in the case.
A blood trail confirmed to be Nancy’s was seen outside her front door on Thursday. Tracy Walder, an FBI special agent and former CIA employee, told Page Six on Friday that the mother of three had “likely been stalked for some time” before her disappearance.
TMZ founder Harvey Levin told CNN on Thursday that investigators “widened their scope to the Tucson area” after receiving a purported ransom note in the case demanding billions of dollars in Bitcoin.
Police also referenced reports of a “possible ransom note” earlier this week, issuing a statement saying: “We are aware of reports circulating of a possible ransom note in connection with the Nancy Guthrie investigation.”
“We take all tips and leads very seriously,” the statement continued. “Everything that comes in goes directly to detectives working with the FBI.”
But Walder also told Page Six on Friday that he doesn’t think the case is necessarily about money.
“My gut feeling is that this person was someone who had some sort of obsession with Savannah because of her high profile, and I feel like this was a potential avenue to get closer to her,” he said in part. “Or this person is someone who has some kind of connection to Savannah because of the stories she covered or the people she interviewed.”
He added: “I don’t think it’s entirely about money. Her salary is largely public, but there are other people making more than her.”
In a recent social media video, Savannah and her brother Camron Guthrie and sister Annie Guthrie plead with suspects to provide “living evidence” as Nancy’s disappearance continues.
Mr Camron has since issued another statement asking for those involved in Nancy’s disappearance to contact him.
