The FBI, which is jointly investigating Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, has announced a $50,000 reward to help find the mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Hise Janke told reporters Thursday that the reward is for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery or “the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance.”
“The FBI has agents, analysts and specialized staff working day and night with our partners in the Sheriff’s Office,” Janke said. “We have deployed additional operatives and agents from our Phoenix office.”
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos also said at a news conference that no suspects have been identified in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
“At this time, no suspects or persons of interest have been identified in this case,” Nanos said. “We’re doing everything in our power to do that. To be clear, we don’t have a person of interest or a suspect that we would consider a prime suspect.”
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office also pushed back against claims of forced entry, saying there was no indication that forced entry occurred in the disappearance.
“I have no idea where it came from,” Nanos said. “We’ve been consistent. Whether it’s forced entry or not, we don’t discuss that at all.”
Nanos laid out the timeline of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance during the press conference, noting that her doorbell camera disconnected at 1:47 a.m. MST on Sunday, February 1, but that the software then detected movement at 2:12 a.m. However, there is no video.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31st at her home in Arizona. On Tuesday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office announced that authorities were treating the disappearance as a crime after finding “very disturbing” evidence at her home.
“I think she was kidnapped,” Nanos told reporters. “She didn’t walk away from there. She wasn’t willing to go.”
On Wednesday, Savannah Guthrie posted a video on Instagram of her and her siblings pleading with their mother’s kidnappers.
“She is 84 years old. Her health and heart are fragile. She lives in constant pain. She has no medicine. She needs medicine to survive and she needs medicine to not suffer,” Guthrie said. “We too have heard reports in the media about the ransom letter. We are doing everything we can as a family. We are ready to speak. But we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a shadow of a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you and are ready to hear it.”
Hours later, President Donald Trump posted on TruthSocial that he was ordering federal law enforcement to help rescue Nancy Guthrie.
“I have spoken with Savannah Guthrie and informed her that I am directing all federal law enforcement agencies to immediately and fully discipline her family and local law enforcement,” he wrote. “We are dedicating every resource to bringing her mother home safely. The nation’s prayers are with her and her family. God bless and protect Nancy! President Donald J. Trump.”
