Seven years after his acclaimed debut, Sorry to Bother You, filmmaker Boots Riley returns with his long-awaited second feature.
Neon has released the first trailer for I Love Boosters, a heist comedy centered around a team of professional shoplifters targeting a ruthless fashion mogul. The film features an ensemble cast led by KiKi Palmer and Naomi Ackie, as well as LaKeith Stanfield, Taylor Page, Poppy Liu, Eiza Gonzalez, Don Cheadle, and Demi Moore.
Reilly returns as writer and director, continuing the socially conscious, boundary-pushing approach that defined his 2018 SXSW breakout Sorry to Bother You. Co-starring Stanfield and Tessa Thompson, the film established Reilly as a filmmaker unafraid to combine satire with surreal and often dissonant ideas. In 2023, his Amazon series “I Am A Virgo” further cemented his reputation for political, genre-defying storytelling.
“I Love Boosters” reunites Riley and Stanfield and marks a new collaboration with Neon, which is producing and financing the project. Aaron Ryder and Andrew Sweat will serve as producers at Ryder Picture Company, with Allison Rose Carter and John Reed from Savage Rose Films serving as producers. Executive producers include Mike Jackman, Gus Dyrdoff, and Waypoint’s Ken Kao and Josh Rosenbaum.
“I Love Boosters” will have its world premiere as the opening night film at the 40th South by Southwest Film Festival, and will return Riley to Austin, where he made his debut as a feature film director. The opening slot highlights Riley’s continued relationship with the festival.
“I Love Booster” will be released in theaters on May 22nd.
