Teyana Taylor made her debut on Saturday Night Live – and so did her little ones!
In her opening monologue on SNL, the One Battle After Another actress, 35, enlisted the help of her daughters (Lou Rose, 5, and Iman “Junie” Tayla, 10) to poke fun at a reality that every parent knows all too well: kids are hooked on their phones.
“Listen, I really, really love my kids and I take them everywhere. I’m not going to get ahead of myself,” she began. “When I was speaking at the Golden Globes, I looked up and looked at my babies. All I wanted to see was their faces scrolling on their phones. So I thought, ‘This is so amazing. Please stop calling me. What an honor. Stop calling me.'”
“But the truth is, I feel very lucky. I’ve worked hard to get to this point throughout my career, and I’m so grateful to be here with my babies rooting for me,” she continued, as the camera panned to show her daughters scrolling through their phones.
Taylor concluded her monologue, ending her joke by telling her children to “hang up.”
With all of her major wins so far this awards season, it’s no secret that she’s proud of her kids in more ways than one.
This awards season, she was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award and won a Golden Globe Award for her role in One Battle After Another. She also made headlines for her role in Ryan Murphy’s All’s Fair.
During her emotional acceptance speech at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 11, Taylor gave a shout-out to the kids “upstairs watching” and quipped, “You better get off your phone and look at me right now.”
Taylor shares her daughters with ex-husband Iman Shumpert. In a recent profile interview with Vanity Fair, the actress gave a glimpse into the dynamics of her co-parenting relationship with the 35-year-old former NBA player since their divorce in 2024.
“Divorce for me is about grieving the death of a living being,” Taylor explained to the outlet. “I think once the kids get involved, they understand the importance of really having to be present for each other.”
“We will continue to be the best co-parents we can be, at least for the next 18 years,” she continued, adding, “I don’t want people to be afraid of marriage because marriage is a beautiful thing.”

The “Gonna Love Me” singer announced her separation from Shumpert in September 2023 after seven years of marriage.
“To be fair, Iman and I are separated and have been for some time,” Taylor wrote on Instagram at the time. “Let me be 1000% clear: ‘Infidelity’ was not one of the reasons for our departure. We remain best friends, great business partners, and a great team as we co-parent our two beautiful children.”
“Most importantly, we’re a family, we’ve been together for 10 years, married for seven, but we’ve never played about it or played around with it,” she added.
