Fizz-e-Motion has joined as the distributor for the sci-fi thriller Psychonaut starring Fiona Dourif (Chucky, The Pit). The company plans to start promoting the film at the European Film Market in Berlin next month.
Studio Dom will be in charge of the US release.
The film, directed by Theis Muvese, centers on a young woman named Max. Powered by a mysterious futuristic machine, Max dives into the mind of his dying girlfriend to find a vital memory that will save her life, all the while being pursued by a man he thought was dead.
“Psychonaut is a trippy, low-budget drama that incorporates elements of science fiction and horror, in the same vein as films like Pi, Following, Primer, and The Lighthouse,” said Muse.
“Designed from the ground up to blur the lines between reality, dreams, and memories, Psychonaut is an in-depth exploration of the human subconscious and the formative moments of life.”
The film also stars Julia Batteran, Yasmin Blake, and Lloyd Hamwijk. Producers are David Glover, Monne Twinhout and This Muvese.
The film won the Macabro Film Festival in Mexico and had an official screening at Fantaspore in Brazil. It was officially screened at Reeling in Chicago and at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival in New York.
Muwes’ 2017 post-apocalyptic action feature Molly was nominated for the Imagine Film Festival’s Black Tulip Award. His 2020 sci-fi action feature Kill Mode was nominated for the International Film Festival Federation’s Méliès d’Argent Award and won Best Film at the Imagine Film Festival.
