“Paradise” screenwriter Stephen Markley will lead a student discussion about how environmental issues are portrayed on television, the Television Academy Foundation announced Tuesday. The free virtual event, titled “Access: Behind the Screen with ‘Paradise’ Author Stephen Markley,” will be hosted by the Academy Foundation in partnership with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon PT or 2 to 3 p.m. ET.

In addition to Merkley, whose books frequently explore environmental themes, discussions will be led by Daniel Hannerfeld, two-time Emmy Award winner and director of Rewrite the Future, and Meredith Milton, Rewrite the Future’s creative director and former studio executive and producer. Rewrite the Future is NRDC’s initiative to help Hollywood creators bring environmental issues to life on screen.

“We are proud to partner with NRDC to offer this free event that promotes awareness and dialogue,” Television Academy Foundation President Tina Perry said in a statement. “This conversation exemplifies the Foundation’s commitment to providing aspiring storytellers with the tools, perspective, and inspiration they need to tell impactful stories that reflect the world around us.”

Students can register for online discussions here.
