Geostar, the Indian media giant formed through the merger of Disney’s Star India and Reliance’s Viacom18, posted healthy performance as a streaming platform with quarterly revenue of Rs 8.01 billion ($883 million) and EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of Rs 1.33 billion ($144 million) for the quarter ended December 31, 2025. JioHotstar achieved its highest ever engagement for entertainment content.
This outstanding performance was the result of India’s historic ICC Women’s World Cup Cricket victory, which attracted 99 million digital viewers for the final. This rivaled the size of an Indian Premier League match and marked a turning point in viewership for women’s sports in India. The platform averaged 450 million monthly active users in the quarter, on par with the IPL-heavy first quarter.
“JioStar properties have delivered unparalleled monetization and consumption across digital and linear TV, solidifying our position as the definitive home for live sports in India,” the company said in its earnings statement.
The platform’s television networks reached more than 830 million viewers and generated more than 60 billion hours of viewing time during the quarter. JioStar’s TV entertainment viewership share rose to 34.6%, an increase of 100 basis points year-on-year and closer to the combined share of the next three largest networks.
JioHotstar’s entertainment slate has delivered ground-breaking multilingual engagement with ‘Bigg Boss’ at the center, along with hit films like ‘Lokah’ and ‘Mirai’. The platform also launched its first AI-driven series, Mahabharat: Ek Dharmayud, which achieved “very strong traction and robust multilingual adoption.”
Digital sports consumption has reached new heights, especially for cricket, with average hours watched per match for men’s ODIs and T20s increasing by 55% year-on-year. India’s cricket tour to Australia reached 122 million viewers on linear TV and 142 million viewers on JioHotstar, while South Africa’s tour of India reached 166 million viewers on linear TV and 187 million digital viewers, making it the biggest bilateral series of 2025.
The platform introduced new product innovations such as multi-view functionality and interactive features like “Meme the Moment” aimed at deepening user engagement during live sports.
JioHotstar continues to enjoy strong recognition in the industry with ‘Special Ops Season 2’ and ‘Criminal Justice: Family Matters’ listed in IMDb’s Top 10 Indian Series of 2025. The platform has won multiple awards at Screenxx Awards 2025 and Promax Asia 2025, and received international nominations at Golden Globe Awards and Critics’ Choice Awards.
In the Hindi speaking market, Colors Network dominated the non-fiction genre with its top three shows – ‘Laughter Chefs 3’, ‘Bigg Boss S19’ and ‘Pati Patni Aur Panga’. Regional general entertainment channels maintained their leadership positions in their respective markets.
Subscriber growth in the quarter was driven by higher acquisitions and stable retention rates supported by the platform’s “stacked calendar of content across sports and entertainment venues.”
On the theatrical front, Avatar: Fire and Ash, distributed by Geo Star Studios, emerged as India’s biggest Hollywood release of 2025, with the country ranking as the seventh-highest box office market for the film globally.
JioStar reported nine-month revenue of $2.9 billion and EBITDA of $447 million, as the company continues to strengthen its position as India’s leading media and entertainment platform.
