Susan Kelechi Watson has been cast in ABC’s popular series “High Potential.”

Watson begins her recurring role with her first appearance on the January 27 episode of the ABC procedural titled “NPC.” The episode description reads, “When a former esports champion commits a mysterious murder, both a gaming rival and a sushi chef come under suspicion. Time spent with Elliot (Matthew Lamb) unexpectedly gives Morgan (Caitlin Olson) insight into the case. Karadek (Daniel Sunjata) reconnects with a woman from his past.”

Watson will play a woman from Kardec’s past. Additionally, the character is described as “acerous, big-hearted, and fiercely independent. Always pursuing the next thing, not out of recklessness, but out of a true appetite for life. She follows wherever her curiosity leads her, whether it’s a new city, a new flavor, or a new chapter.”

Watson is best known for her role on NBC’s hit series “This Is Us,” where she starred as Beth Pearson on the show, which ran for six seasons on the broadcast network. Watson’s other television credits include Netflix’s “The Residence,” NBC’s “Will Trent” and FX’s “Louie.” In film, Watson is known for her roles in productions such as “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”

She is repped by UTA, Authentic and Jackoway Austen.

Season 2 of “High Potential” started in September. Kaitlin Olson will reprise her role as Morgan. “A single mother with an extraordinary intellect whose unconventional talent for solving crimes leads to an unusual and unstoppable partnership with an experienced detective (Sunjata).”

The cast also includes Javicia Leslie as Daphne, Deniz Akdeniz as Lev “Oz” Ozdil, Amira J as Eva, Matthew Lamb as Elliot, Steve Howie as Nick Wagner, and Judy Reyes as Selena.

The series is based on the French drama Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (HPI). Drew Goddard developed the American version and executive produced with Sarah Esberg through Goddard Textiles. Todd Harsan will serve as executive producer and showrunner. Olson will also serve as an executive producer, along with Mark Halsey. TV number 20 is the studio.
