Jenny’s new “mantra”? Red is a new color beige.
The BLACKPINK star, 29, turned heads on the red carpet at the 40th Golden Disc Awards held in Taipei, Taiwan on January 10, wearing a custom-made scarlet dress by Maison Margiela Artisanal. It’s the same dramatic silhouette that Kim Kardashian debuted in beige at the Academy Museum Gala in October.
The Skims founder, 45, went all-out for the avant-garde face-covering hood on the Los Angeles runway, but Jennie opted to show it off on the red carpet.
Her stylist Sam Wolfe shared a backstage photo of the “Like Jenny” singer in a fully hooded ensemble, but she removed the headpiece before standing in front of the camera.
Kardashian’s mask became a divisive moment online and a playful point of contention for her glam squad.
The reality star previously revealed to Variety that she was wearing makeup underneath the mask and had flown in her longtime artist Mario Dedivanovic from New York for the occasion.
Hairstylist Chris Appleton captured the moment with his unique sense of humor, captioning his Instagram account: “Behind the mask, the glam squad is crying silently 🥹.”
But in Jenny’s case, the focus was on shine and sparkle.
According to a post from the jeweler’s CEO, the K-pop idol traded in his mask for an eye-catching Antoine jewelry, a custom necklace of 60-carat “pigeon blood” rubies and 27-carat diamonds worth a staggering $4 million.
Kardashian also said the nude piece looked “very SKIMS-esque,” which is what first drew her to the look from designer Glenn Martens’ debut couture collection for the French house.
Jenny’s reimagined version features the same severe corseted bodice with visible bones and dramatic draped sleeves that pool to the floor, rendered in a vibrant cherry red.
Jennie becomes the third A-lister to embrace the Margiela silhouette, following Anya Taylor-Joy’s all-white interpretation without a mask at November’s Governors Awards.
