What you need to know
Reese Witherspoon is using her likeness on social media to call out scammers.
In a video shared on TikTok on Wednesday, January 14, Witherspoon, 49, warned fans not to engage with fake accounts pretending to be her. “Hey, this is important,” the Big Little Lies star began the video. “I just want to talk about what I’ve been dealing with for the last 24 hours.”
“There are multiple people on TikTok and Instagram pretending to be me, and they try to get into people’s DMs to build relationships, extract personal information, and schedule times to meet up,” Witherspoon explained about the scam.
“I want you to know, this is not me. It’s very upsetting when people use my name to manipulate people, but I want you to know that I will never manipulate you,” Witherspoon said, adding, “I will never contact you to ask for money or personal information or to set up a meeting time.”

“So check out the accounts that are doing this and make sure they’re verified,” Witherspoon added.
“If anyone is talking to you, it’s not just me. This is happening across the board, but I’m really upset that this is happening on such a large scale. So please be careful out there. And know, I would never reach out to you to manipulate you or take anything from you, okay,” the Legally Blonde star concluded the video.
Witherspoon is the latest celebrity to warn fans to be wary of online scams. In June 2025, Helen Mirren urged fans to ignore messages from email addresses using her name to “participate in the work of fake charities”.
Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp and Tom Hanks have issued similar warnings to their fans in recent months.
