James Cameron will receive the Outstanding Collaborator Award at the 28th Costume Designers Guild Awards.
The Distinguished Collaborator Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated unwavering support for costume design and creative partnership with costume designers. Cameron joins previous winners including Clint Eastwood, Guillermo del Toro, Quentin Tarantino, Meryl Streep, Lorne Michaels, Joel Schumacher, Rob Marshall, Helen Mirren and Ryan Murphy.
Guild President Terry Gordon said in a statement: “James Cameron doesn’t just build worlds, he builds cultures with costumes and history. His partnership with Oscar-winning costume designer Deborah L. Scott and his collaborations with many other designers are “The Costume Designers Guild is proud of his unwavering respect for our art and the creative partnership he has brought to the table.” We present the Outstanding Collaborator Award to Mr. James Cameron. ”
Cameron’s “Avatar” movie depicts the adventures of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a marine turned leader of the Na’vi tribe, Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), a Na’vi warrior, and his family, and is expected to be a big hit at the box office. The 2009 original film and 2022 sequel “The Way of Water” are the two highest-grossing films of all time, with $2.9 billion and $2.3 billion, respectively. Thanks to Avatar: Fire and Ashes, Zoe Saldaña is officially the highest-grossing actor of all time. The film has already grossed over $2.32 billion worldwide and is currently the 29th highest-grossing film of all time. Beyond filmmaking, Cameron is a National Geographic Explorer in Residence, a record-setting deep-sea explorer, and a passionate advocate of sustainability and environmental innovation.
As previously announced, honorees include Career Achievement Award recipient Michelle Cole, Vanguard Spotlight Award recipient Teyana Taylor, and Spotlight Award recipient Kate Hudson.
The guild announced its nominations for the 28th CDGA, with titles including One Battle After Another, Sinners, Weapons, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and Bugonia.
Organizers, presenters and additional winners for the 28th CDGA will be announced in the coming weeks.
The CDGA awards ceremony will be held on February 12, 2026 at Ebel in Los Angeles, California. Winners in the nine competitive categories will be announced live at the event.
