Nikki Glazer didn’t ignore and run CBS’ news chief

Golden Globes host Nikki Glazer did not appear on the controversial CBS News show in defiance of department heads, sources tell Page Six.

Glazer, 41, criticized the network that hosts the awards ceremony, saying, “Most of the editorial awards go to CBS News. That’s right. CBS News: The place to see the latest BS news in America.”

The joke was met with loud laughter from the A-list, ultra-liberal crowd.

Sunday night’s dig at the comic comes after a tumultuous few weeks for new CBS editor-in-chief Bari Weiss. The editor-in-chief made headlines when he canceled a “60 Minutes” segment about the United States sending deportees to prisons in El Salvador, sparking an uproar among his staff.

But news is separate from the entertainment sector, and Weiss is heard to be expected to ignore the pursuit and “move on.”

“The news department is completely independent,” said an industry official, who acknowledged that there was no need to check Mr. Glaser’s monologues with his bosses.

“Let’s move on,” the source added.

CBS News was previously accused by President Donald Trump of editing an interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris to present a better image of the Democratic candidate in the months leading up to the 2024 presidential election.

Trump accused the network of “election interference” in favor of Harris. CBS’ parent company later agreed to a $16 million settlement with Trump ahead of its merger with Skydance Media.

Weiss was founded by Skydance owner David Ellison, who bought her website, The Free Press, for $150 million last October.

Since taking the hot seat, she has hand-picked Tony Dokoupil to lead “CBS Evening News.”
But the former “CBS Mornings” co-host got off to an embarrassing start last week after experiencing a technical glitch during his first show. Nevertheless, he still attracted 4.4 million viewers in his debut last Monday, more than half a million more viewers than usual for that time slot.

His news-making interview with border czar Tom Homan was later overshadowed by the firing of Javier Guzman, one of the show’s top producers. Guzman reportedly made no secret of his dislike for Weiss.

Despite Glaser’s ridicule of CBS News, the CBS network and its parent company Paramount broadcast the Globes, and the ceremony was also streamed on Paramount+.

Ellison is currently pursuing a hostile takeover of Warner Bros. to thwart Netflix’s proposed takeover of Warner Bros.

As Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav watched from the audience, Glazer joked while hosting the event: “We’re going to start bidding for Warner Bros. at $5. Can I ask you for $5?”
