Elon Musk is seeking full custody of his and Ashley St. Clair’s 1-year-old son Romulus.
Tesla’s CEO tweeted his intention to file on Monday in response to an X user who claimed St. Clair “needs full custody” because he allegedly “supports transgender grooming.”
In response, Musk confirmed, “In light of her comments hinting at the possibility of transitioning our 1-year-old boy, I will be filing for full custody today.”
However, it is unclear which statement St. Clair Musk was referring to, and representatives for the two men have not yet responded to Page Six’s requests for comment.
It’s worth noting that the 27-year-old expressed his remorse in an apology to the transgender community via X over the weekend.
Asked on Sunday about his past “blatant transphobia,” St. Clair wrote, “I feel immense guilt for my role. … I don’t know how to atone for many of these things, but I have personally worked incredibly hard to learn and represent those within the trans community that I have hurt.”
She specifically mentioned Musk’s 21-year-old transgender daughter, Vivian, whom he welcomed with ex-wife Justin Wilson.
Musk, 54, has been estranged from Vivian for years, quipping to the Financial Times in 2022, “You can’t win everyone.”
He also repeatedly referred to Vivian by her dead name and claimed in 2024 that she was “killed by the Wakened Mind Virus.”
In her apology, Ms. St. Clair predicted that her words would cause “right-wing hysteria” or be seen as “dishonest” by the other side.
Nevertheless, she concluded, “But yeah, I’m sorry. Please tell me how I can help.”
St. Clair made headlines last year when she named Musk as the boy’s father, and Musk’s paternity was eventually confirmed.
Musk has welcomed 13 children to date, including six with Wilson, including Vivian, four with Siobhan Gillis, and three with Grimes.
Grimes, who dated Musk on and off from 2018 to 2022, has shown support for Vivian since their split.
In response to Musk’s “Wake Mind Virus” statement in 2024, Musk tweeted: “I love Vivian and will forever be infinitely proud of her.”
The 37-year-old songwriter is engaged in a messy custody battle with Musk over son X AE A-XII, 5, daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, 4, and son Techno Mechanicus, 3.
Most recently, Grimes slammed her “stupid” ex-husband for blocking her on social media and implored him to keep their children out of the public eye, even though co-parenting remains her “priority.”
In March 2025, she tweeted: “The situation in which children’s lives are made public is of grave concern to me, and I think every day about how to resolve this.”
