“The Adolescence” star Erin Doherty won her first Golden Globe on Sunday night, winning the trophy for Best Supporting Female Actor in Television with a testy acceptance speech that included F-BOMB and S-BOMB. It appears CBS censors missed at least one of them.
“I promised my mom I wouldn’t swear, so what do you mean? Oh my god! Mom, I’m so sorry,” she said as CBS blared. Doherty later dedicated the win to her therapist because of her role in “Adolescence.”
“I didn’t want to assume, but I feel like everyone knows all the therapists,” she said. “Life can be tough. Mental health is everything. Thank you to my therapist. It was an honor to play her.”
Doherty previously won the 2025 Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and now she has won the Critics’ Choice Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for Television. On Sunday night, Doherty accepted the Globe Award along with fellow stars Stephen Graham (Best Actor in a Limited Series) and Owen Cooper (Best Supporting Actor).
Doherty, who plays Briony Ariston in the series, is also nominated for the 2026 SAG-AFTRA Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series. (She won the Actor Award, formerly known as the SAG Award, in 2020 and 2021 as part of the cast of “The Crown.”)
The actress was nominated against Amy Lou Wood (The White Lotus), Carrie Coon (The White Lotus), Parker Posey (The White Lotus), Catherine O’Hara (The Studio), and Hannah Einbinder (The Hux).
“Youth” is an award favorite. At the Emmy Awards, in addition to Dougherty’s honor, the show won Best Limited Series, Best Actor (Stephen Graham), and Best Supporting Actor (Owen Cooper).
“Adolescence” was nominated for five Globe Awards this year. In addition to Cooper and Walters, the awards include Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television (Stephen Graham), Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in Television (Owen Cooper and Ashley Walters), and Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Made for Television (Owen Cooper and Ashley Walters).
Female actors in supporting roles on television include all genres, including comedies, dramas, and limited series fields. Last year’s winner was Jessica Gunning for “Baby Reindeer.”
The 83rd Golden Globe Awards, hosted by comedian Nikki Glazer, will be broadcast live on CBS from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Dick Clark Pros. Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner are producing the television broadcast.
