Jillian Lauren Shriner has filed for divorce from Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, according to legal documents obtained by PEOPLE. The couple married in November 2005 and have two teenage sons. Lauren Shriner, who announced in March that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, is seeking joint legal and physical custody.

Jillian Lauren Shriner, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has filed for divorce after 20 years of marriage.

Lauren Shriner, 52, cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for her filing, according to legal documents obtained by PEOPLE. She did not mention the date of separation.

The former couple married in Hawaii in November 2005. During their 20 years of marriage, the couple had two sons, Giovanni Starshine (13) and Tariq Moon (17). Lauren Shriner is seeking joint legal and physical custody.

Lauren Shriner sought spousal support and asked the court to terminate Schreiner’s authority to award spousal support. Lauren Shriner also requested that Schreiner, 60, pay her legal fees and change her last name back to Lauren.

The divorce filing comes months after Lauren Shriner announced on Instagram in March that she had been diagnosed with cancer. She later revealed that she underwent two consecutive surgeries, including a total hysterectomy.

On April 8, Lauren Shriner was shot and killed by police near her husband’s home in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles. At the time, a search was underway for three suspects suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run incident that had fled into the Shriners’ neighborhood.

Police said Lauren Shriner was not involved in the hit-and-run, but was armed and fired at officers who were in the backyard. “She repeatedly ignored police commands to disarm and fired at LAPD officers,” LAPD spokeswoman Jennifer Forkish told PEOPLE at the time.

A arriving police officer then shot Lauren Shriner once in the shoulder, and she was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

She was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and released on $1 million bail.

She was later charged with assault and negligent discharge of a firearm, and was admitted to a diversion program rather than jail due to mental health issues, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
