“Zootopia 2” captures nearly 80% of the market upon debut

According to KOBIS, a tracking service run by the Korean Film Council, Disney’s animated sequel Zootopia 2 dominated the South Korean box office over the weekend of November 28-30, grossing a whopping $10.8 million from 1.62 million viewers on 2,382 screens.

Including previews, the film has already collected $13.7 million. With a strong start, the film gained a huge share of 78.97% in the overall market.

Universal’s “Wicked: For Good” remained in second place with $953,242, bringing its total to $5.4 million in its first two weeks of release.

Lionsgate’s “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” ranked third with $798,161, pushing its total to $8.07 million.

The Japanese title “Chainsaw Man the Movie: Reze Hen” came in 4th place with $283,888 and box office revenue of $23.9 million.

In fifth place was the Japanese drama “Kokuho,” which grossed $181,097, reaching $738,696 in its 11 days of release.

The award-winning Korean drama “The World of Love” followed in sixth place with $77,373 for a total of $1.01 million.

The long-running hit “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugenjou” added $80,799, bringing the total box office revenue to $41.5 million.

South Korean action comedy “The Informant,” which debuted in eighth place, opened with 8,738 attendees and $70,985 in admission fees. The movie stars Heo Sung Tae and Jo Bok Rae and was directed by Kim Seok. Synopsis: Taebong, an informant for a smuggling operation, is exposed during the mission. Meanwhile, the unlucky detective Nam-hyuk has his own plans that go awry due to confusion. Forced into an uneasy alliance, the two mismatched characters must recoup their losses and defeat the criminal.

Ha Myung-mi’s local drama “Haran” followed in ninth place with $45,650, bringing the total to $83,429.

Rounding out the top 10 was director Sergei Paradjanov’s restored classic “The Color of Pomegranate,” which grossed $36,926 for a total box office gross of $69,862.

The top 10 films earned a total of $13.4 million over the weekend.
