Ariana Grande has issued a warning to fans to be careful before making “dangerous” body-shaming comments.
The “We Can’t Be Friends” songstress, 32, on Saturday reposted a 2024 interview to her Instagram Story in which she addressed negative comments about her appearance.
“Re-sharing this from last year ♡ As a loving reminder to you all,” she captioned the clip.
In the video, Grande became noticeably emotional as she shared how negative comments affected her as a young star growing up in the public eye.
“I’ve been doing this in public since I was 16 or 17 and I was like a specimen in a petri dish, so I’ve heard everything,” Grande said.
“I’ve heard every version of what’s wrong with me. And fixing it, it’s wrong for different reasons. But it’s all from your appearance, from the simplest thing, you know?”
The former Nickelodeon star explained that it’s “hard to protect yourself from that noise” when you’re “young and you hear all kinds of sounds.”
“I think that’s an unpleasant thing to experience on any scale,” she said. or “You look fat!” What happened? ”
“I think there’s a comfort level in today’s society that we shouldn’t have at all, commenting on other people’s looks and appearances, what they think is going on behind the scenes, their health, the way they present themselves,” she continued.
The ‘Wicked: For Good’ actress previously addressed body shamers in 2023, impassioned her followers to be more careful before commenting on someone else’s appearance.
“The body you’re comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body. I was on a lot of antidepressants, drinking it, and eating poorly,” she explained.
“When it seems like you think I’m healthy,[I was]at the lowest point in my life, when in fact it wasn’t my health.”
“I know I don’t have to explain it to you, but I feel like maybe if there’s some openness and some kind of vulnerability here, maybe good things can come from that,” she shared.
