Indonesian production company Folka Films has announced the production consortium for author Camila Andini’s new feature film, The Four Seasons of Java, scheduled for release in 2026.
This announcement was made at JAFF Market 2025 held in Yogyakarta. The cast includes Putri Marino, Aliya Saroka, Christine Hakim, and Hana Pitrashata Malasan. The on-stage event also featured a first look footage from the movie.
The project won two awards at the first Tokyo Gap Financing Market Awards held in October, winning the Tokyo Project Award worth $13,225 and the Konchak Award from Cambodia-based Konchak Studio, which provides sound post-production services worth $25,000. The film previously participated in the Venice gap financing market.
The Indonesian consortium brings together Miles Film, Imaginary, Jagarta, Trinity, Team Up, Julie Esther and Navarros. Oriflame will serve as brand sponsor and Jaris & K will serve as outdoor media partner.
The project’s international co-production partners span eight territories: Storm Films (Norway), Lemming Films (Netherlands), One Two Films (Germany), Ici Et La Production (France), Giraffe Pictures (Singapore), PFX (Poland), Brand Film (Indonesia) and Chada Entertainment (Thailand).
Development support comes from Hubert Bals Fund Development, Hubert Bals Fund + Netherlands Film Fund, and Sorfond – The Norwegian South Film Fund.
This magical realism drama follows Pertiwi, a woman who returns to her village after spending more than a decade in prison for killing a young man to protect herself from an attempted rape. Her return coincides with the arrival of electricity to remote communities.
Forka Films, formerly known as Fourcolours Films, was founded in 2001 and is led by filmmaker Ifa Isfansyah, who is also the director of the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival. The company’s credits include Eddie Kayono’s “Siti” (Telluride, 2015), Camila Andini’s “Yuni” (Platform Awards, Toronto, 2021) and Andini’s “Before, Now & Then” (Silver Bear, Berlinale, 2022). Garin Nugroho’s “Memories of My Body” premiered at Horizons Strand IB 2018 in Venice, while Wichaksono Wisnu Legowo’s “Tula” was Indonesia’s submission to the 2018 Oscars.
Most recently, the company produced the Netflix miniseries “Cigarette Girl,” directed by Isfanshah and Andini, which won Best Miniseries at the 2024 Seoul International Drama Awards.
