Roberto Pisoni, senior director of Sky Italia entertainment channels, has resigned from his role at the Comcast-owned pay TV service. Pisoni joins Italy’s I Wonder Pictures, which continues to expand its production capabilities and bring AI into its creative and production processes.

Pisoni, who has had a long career with Sky Italy since its founding in 2003, will spearhead I Wonder’s expansion of content production in his role as Vice President of AI Innovation, Content and New Media Development at the Bologna-based company.

He will report directly to I Wonder founder and CEO Andrea Romeo.

In recent years, I Wonder Pictures has emerged as one of Italy’s leading distributors thanks to its deft mix of arthouse and more mainstream films, carrying titles from both A24 and Neon companies. I Wonder’s recent releases include “The Voice of Hind Rajab,” “The Substance,” “Together,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Whale,” and “The Zone of Interest.”

The company has also gradually expanded its business model beyond traditional theatrical distribution by launching the Iwonderfull and Top Doc streaming platforms.

Pisoni’s appointment is part of Romeo’s plan to strengthen the company’s organizational structure “in a growth phase that includes production, distribution and the development of new spatial and narrative models with an integrated perspective,” the statement said.

Pisoni will be responsible for coordinating the launch of a new unit within i-Wonder called Top Content and leading the curation of the iWonderful and Top Doc platforms, as well as spearheading the introduction of “a narrative and productive model that integrates film, documentary filmmaking, new media and experimental processes, including the conscious use of artificial intelligence in the creative and productive chain,” the statement said.

Under this new structure at I Wonder Pictures, Giulia Moretti and Giorgia Fasciano, who are responsible for the company’s production department and channel editorial curation, respectively, “will continue to play key roles in project development, coordination and management work,” the statement said.

“Our work is based on a particular cultural vision, which must be protected and remain evident in all editorial and organizational decisions,” Romeo said. “Roberto’s arrival allows us to put this vision into a more stable and shared format.”

Pisoni commented: “Today I Wonder Pictures represents a space for research and dialogue with the public, which is rare in Italy. My job is to translate this identity into a method, both in production and editorial curation, as well as in the development of new formats.”
