An interactive ghost-hunting film filmed at the famous Malvern Manor using CtrlMovie technology will be released next April, allowing viewers to take part in paranormal investigations themselves in a gamified viewing experience.
The film, produced by Andrew Zeiderman (KPopped, A Kiss Story, Southern Charm) and Scott C. Silver (The Pyramids, Wheelman, Born Stars), is titled Control Your Fear and is described as “combining the authenticity of authentic paranormal investigation with the dynamic participation of live interactive games to create something entirely new: a hybrid of reality, technology, and viewer-driven.” telling a story. ”
Production on “Control Your Fear” wrapped this week at Malvern Manor in Iowa, one of the most haunted places in the United States.
The synopsis of Kino’s “Control Your Fear” is as follows:
This experience follows three real-life personalities chosen based on their unique backgrounds and belief systems in the paranormal. Jake Bruce, an online ghost hunter and social media influencer, brings in the detective’s eyes. Bri Luna, co-founder of The Hoodwitch and one of the leading mystics of our time, offers a deep spiritual perspective. And Alexandra Deaver, a ghost hunter and direct descendant of Salem witch trial victims, connects past and present through her lineage. Together they step into the darkness, but only the audience decides how deep they dive.
During production at Malvern Manor, all encounters were recorded live, using a combination of modern and old-fashioned ghost-hunting methods, along with a variety of fortune-telling techniques. The result is an unfiltered and often gruesome investigation that stretches the boundaries of the paranormal genre. Other productions have explored similar concepts, but Control Your Fear does so with unprecedented authenticity and the added power of real-time viewer interactivity. The investigation managed to document numerous horrifying moments that caused both cast and crew to question the reality of their beliefs regarding the paranormal.
The film is created using Kino Industries’ proprietary CtrlMovie technology, allowing viewers to “access the experience on a variety of compatible devices, including major gaming systems, tablets, and mobile phones, each of which enables real-time choices and collective decisions that directly shape how events unfold.”
The CtrlMovie system allows for both single-player and multiplayer decision-making, with different endings based on participants’ choices.
“This is ghost hunting like you’ve never experienced before,” said co-creator Silver. “We take a familiar genre and turn the dial to the maximum, making the audience an active force in the investigation. This is not a game or a show. It’s a whole new kind of experience where the lines between audience and participant are blurred.”
“For decades, fans have watched investigators investigate unknown entities,” said Zuiderman, who also directed the project. “For the first time, they’re not just watching the hunt, they’re inside it. ‘A’ breaks the mold of how paranormal stories are told and invites viewers to face their own fears. Malvern Manor is the first haunted location we encounter in our series of paranormal experiences.”
