Kevin Federline caught Britney Spears on the phone with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake the night before their wedding in 2004.
The former backup dancer said he and the pop star were staying at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica, Calif., the night before their wedding, and that he was on the phone when he walked in.
“I was like, ‘What’s going on?'” “I thought she was on the phone with her mom, or maybe she was wondering something, but she said she was on the phone with Justin,” Federline said in an interview on “Entertainment Tonight” on Tuesday.
“Immediately…I thought, ‘I don’t need to do this,'” he told Spears. “I mean, I didn’t care if I got married or not.”
Federline said Spears told Timberlake that she just wanted to “make sure everything was over” and wanted to have the last word.
“I was like, ‘Damn, this is what you decide on the night before our wedding?'” Federline said of his reaction at the time, agreeing with an interviewer who called the exchange “a huge red flag.”
“I was very young,” Federline added. “At that moment, I fell madly in love.”
The father of six said he doesn’t know if Spears still loves Timberlake, but he’s sure she’s “not over it.”
Federline, 47, is currently promoting her memoir, “You Thought You Knew,” which will be released on October 21st. Federline and Spears, who have not spoken in years since their divorce in 2007, share two children, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.
He told the New York Times that he feared Spears was “heading toward” a tragic end, saying, “It’s become impossible to pretend that everything is okay.”
Federline also claimed that Spears had seen her sons sleeping with knives in their hands.
“The publicity of Kevin’s book means that he and others are once again profiting from Kevin, but sadly after the child support agreement with Kevin ends,” Spears’ rep told Page Six in a statement on Tuesday. “All she cares about is her children Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being in this sensational activity.”
“She detailed her journey in her memoir,” the statement continued, referring to Spears’ 2023 book, The Woman in Me.
Spears, 43, and Timberlake, 44, met at The Mickey Mouse Club as children and began dating in 1999. They dated for two years before breaking up in 2002.
The relationship was turbulent.
In her memoir, Spears revealed how she had an abortion after getting pregnant by Timberlake. She also admitted to having an affair with choreographer Wade Robson.
Page Six exclusively reported that Timberlake ultimately fired Spears with a two-word text: “It’s over!!!”
