Charli XCX threw shade at pop stars releasing tour documentaries in a new interview released just one day after Taylor Swift’s Ellas tour film was announced.
Speaking to Vanity Fair about his upcoming film projects, the “365” singer revealed that he turned down the idea of making a tour documentary about himself amidst his “brat” fame.
Writer Anna Peel said Charlie, 33, “felt the market was already saturated with similar projects”.
“I feel like my problem with a lot of musician documentaries is that they often show the musician facing some kind of opposition and ultimately overcoming it and becoming a hero,” explained the singer, whose real name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison.
“And that’s not my experience. It’s probably a lot of other people have too. That’s great.”
Instead of making a tour documentary, she said she plans to star in a mockumentary about the pop star preparing for her first headlining tour called “The Moment,” scheduled for release in 2026.
She told the outlet that the “2024 historical drama” is “not a tour documentary or a concert film by any means, but the seed of the idea was born out of pressure to make it.”
She further added, “Although this is fiction, it’s the most realistic depiction of the music industry I’ve ever seen.”
Charli’s comments come a day after her rumored nemesis Swift announced the upcoming release of a six-part documentary about her record-breaking Elas tour.
The trailer for the docuseries included intimate behind-the-scenes moments from her tour and glimpses into her romance with now-fiancé Travis Kelce.
At one point in an interview with Vanity Fair, Charlie was asked about his rumored feud with Swift, 36.
Peele “declined to comment on this situation,” after noting that the “Apple” singer hasn’t been in hiding since the release of Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl.”

Charli and Swift’s feud began when people thought the former’s song “Sympathy Is a Knife” was about the latter.
However, the paper notes that the song is “a song about self-doubt” and was misinterpreted “as a diss track” by both fans and Swift.
Nevertheless, many fans believe that the “Wood” singer addressed the situation with his own diss track. Swift has yet to confirm whether the song is about Charli or Kim Kardashian, as others have claimed.
