Diane Keaton has passed away.
A family spokesperson confirmed to People that the legendary actress passed away in California, saying the family is requesting privacy at this time. She was 79 years old.
The cause of her death is unknown, but sources told People that her health suddenly deteriorated in recent months.
Keaton’s representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Keaton’s co-workers, including “The First Wives Club” co-star Bette Midler, remembered her on social media, posting heartwarming notes in her honor.
The legendary movie star last posted on social media in April, looking happy and healthy as she celebrated her dog Reggie on National Pet Day.
Keaton first rose to fame playing Kay Adams-Corleone, the girlfriend and eventual second wife of Michael Corleone, played by Al Pacino, in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather trilogy.
Some of her favorite on-screen roles include “The First Wives Club,” “Father of the Bride,” and more. She won an Oscar for her role in Woody Allen’s 1977 Annie Hall.
Keaton never married, but dated Pacino on and off for about 20 years until their relationship ended in 1990. She also dated Allen and actor Warren Beatty.
She decided to become a single mother in her fifties and adopted two children, daughter Dexter in 1996 and son Duke in 2001.
“I never thought I was ready to become a mother,” she told Women’s Home Journal in 2008, according to People magazine. “Motherhood wasn’t an irresistible urge for me, but more like an idea I had been thinking about for a long time. So I jumped in.”
Keaton struggled with bulimia in her 20s, something she didn’t know about for years, much to the shock of her then-boyfriend Allen.
“I’ve gotten better at hiding. I hide the evidence. How do I make sure no one finds out? You live a very strange lifestyle. You live a lie,” the actress told People magazine in 2017.
Her last public appearance was in June 2024 when she visited Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney’s Something About Her sandwich shop. There, the cast of “Vanderpump Rules” named menu items after Hollywood icons.
“The incredible @DianeKeaton visited @somethingabouther,” Maroney captioned a photo of the women hugging and smiling broadly.
