Jennifer Lopez certainly knows how to remain stoic even in the spotlight.
The megastar appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night wearing a gold sequin dress by Elie Saab and nude platform sandals. Once Lopez was safely seated, the talk show host asked her to set the record straight about her recent wardrobe faux pas.
While performing in Poland on July 25th, Lopez suffered a major wardrobe malfunction that made headlines, but now all we can do is laugh.
She strutted around the stage wearing a metallic gold triangle bra top and matching fringe miniskirt as the crowd sang “Happy Birthday” to the star. On her arms were opera-length gold lame gloves. She completed the look with glittery gold ankle boots.
Unfortunately, the moment the song ended, Lopez raised the microphone in gratitude and her entire skirt fell down to her ankles.
The veteran superstar immediately started laughing and said, “I’m out here in my underwear, what do you think? It’s everywhere.” She then tossed her skirt to the crowd and announced, “I’m glad you stepped up that outfit, and I’m glad you wore underwear. I don’t usually wear underwear.”
Before the breakdown, Lopez’s backup dancers were seen adjusting their skirts to avoid accidentally exposing themselves.
When shown the clip, Lopez shared the real reason behind the accident.
“That day, they made me that dress. I was looking at a picture of old supermodel Yasmine Buress from the ’90s, and she was wearing this cute outfit…I thought, ‘Let’s make this outfit.'” So they made a makeshift costume, because…I felt like it. ”
Lopez took all responsibility off her amazing costume team, adding, “I had them go crazy making this costume. And they didn’t have a chance to do it. I didn’t know if I was really going to wear it, but I put it on at the last moment. And once I walked out, it just fell apart.”
Then, in Kazakhstan last August, she casually flicked a giant bug that had crawled up her neck, recalling, “I looked at it in the light and it looked like a helicopter!”
As she finished her song, a large screen showed a giant bug crawling up her black lace-up bodysuit, along her neck and toward her face.
With an effortless throw “to the tune of a song,” Fallon said, the insect flew through the air, away from Lopez, and out of the spotlight.
If there’s anyone who’s ready to handle a wardrobe malfunction on a huge international stage, it’s J.Lo.
After all, she’s still Jenny on the block.
