Jeff Bridges brought back The Dude from “The Big Lebowski” on the Oct. 7 episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “Can we all just calm down to ask the important question of America in 2025?” The Oscar winner was appearing on the late-night show to promote his new movie “Tron: Ares,” but Kimmel had other ideas for the performer.
“We’re in a very difficult time. I think that’s a good way to put it,” Kimmel said. “People are getting crazier by the day. Would you please invite The Dude tonight to share some words of wisdom?”
Kimmel conveniently provided a cardigan and sunglasses to help Bridges introduce one of his most iconic characters, The Dude. The actor happily agreed and was handed a White Russian, which he drank while helping him complete the transformation.
“Hello, world, man here,” Bridges said in character. “So, uh, uh, uh, hey, can we all just calm down? Look, look, I’m talking about wars, battles, cancellations. I mean, let’s relax, dude. Come on, calm down. What time are we? Nine o’clock? We have to be zero. Or half past midnight at most.”
“ICE? Let’s take ICE from the streets to our drinks,” Bridges said, and the studio audience cheered. “We can’t stand this aggression, right? So let’s put up with it. Let’s put up with it together. Yes, we can do it. Well, that’s just my opinion, but don’t you think it’s a good one, Jimmy?”
Kimmel responded, “That’s a really great opinion.”
The Dude made his debut in the 1998 Joel and Ethan Coen-directed crime comedy The Big Lebowski, in which Bridges co-starred with John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, and John Turturro. Bridges played Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, a once-ardent activist immersed in L.A.’s slacker society. The plot begins when criminals mistake him for a billionaire with the same name and assault him.
