Resurrection’ renewed for season 2 on Paramount+

“Dexter: Resurrection” is alive and well.

The sequel series starring Michael C. Hall reprising his role as TV’s favorite serial killer has been renewed for a second season on Paramount+.

In a video posted to YouTube, Hall thanked fans and declared, “There’s a lot more to come. The writers’ room is currently meeting and more details will be announced soon…the story continues.”

The renewal comes after Variety reported in August that Paramount+ planned to open a writers’ room for a potential season 2 of the series. Another “Dexter” spinoff, the prequel series “Original Sin,” starring Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter, had a less fortunate fate. After the show was renewed for a second season in April, following the Paramount-Skydance merger, the streamer reversed its decision and canceled the series a few months later.

“Dexter: Resurrection” premiered in July and was watched by 4.4 million multiplatform viewers in its first seven days. In addition to Hall, the show will feature Uma Thurman, Jack Alcott, David Zayas, Ntare Guma Mbajo Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia Suarez, James Remar and Peter Dinklage. Season 1 saw returning actors such as Eric Stonestreet and David Majdov, as well as guest stars including Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, David Dastmalchian, and John Lithgow reprising their roles as Arthur Mitchell, aka the Trinity Killer.

After eight seasons on Showtime, “Dexter” ended in 2013 and was revived with the 2021 miniseries “Dexter: The New Blood.” Years later, Dexter: Original Sin premiered, and Hall reprized the role of Dexter as a voice actor. Hall then appeared on screen as a serial killer in the sequel series ‘Resurrection’. Last year, it was announced that a spin-off prequel series based on The Trinity Killer was in development.

“Resurrection” is created by “Dexter” original showrunner Clyde Phillips and is produced by his Clyde Phillips Productions, Counterpart Studios and Showtime Studios. Executive producers include Phillips, Scott Reynolds, Marcos Siega, Hilly Hicks Jr., John Goldwyn, Sarah Colleton, Tony Hernandez, Lily Burns, and Hall.
