Francia Raisa, Selena Gomez’s kidney donor, denied rumors that the two were having a feud.
Days before the pop star married Benny Blanco, the “Grown Up” alum was asked about claims that she was “angry” and “disgusted” about Gomez smoking after her kidney transplant.
“Well, what you want from me now is nonsense that has been reported in the media, there are too many rumors going around. I haven’t said anything,” Raisa said in an interview with reporter Magaly Ortiz on September 25.
“When the rumors came out that I was mad because[Gomez]was smoking and things like that, I didn’t know about those rumors,” she explained.
The How I Met Your Father actress, 37, was contacted by TMZ about the rumors, but said she was working.
“So what you’re asking me are rumors. No one knows what’s going on and neither she nor I have talked about it,” she asserted.
“Maybe someday we’ll tackle this problem,” Raisa concluded.
In 2017, Raisa donated one of her kidneys to Gomez, who suffers from lupus.
The Wizards of Waverly Place alum, 33, documented the medical procedure and shared an image of her and Raisa holding hands from their respective hospital beds.
“Words cannot express how grateful I am to my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” Gomez wrote on Instagram at the time. “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me.
“I am incredibly blessed. I love my sister so much.”
However, rumors of a feud between the ladies surfaced in 2022 after Gomez called Taylor Swift her “only friend in the industry.”
“I never really fit in with the celebrity cool girl group. My only friend in this industry is Taylor[Swift]so I remember feeling like I didn’t belong,” the “Calm Down” singer told Rolling Stone in November 2022.
In an interview, Raisa wrote the word “interesting” under her Instagram post, then deleted it.
In March 2023, Gomez called Raisa his “best friend,” suggesting the women had made amends.
The “Emilia Perez” star also said in an interview on Apple TV+’s “Dear…” that “I will never be more indebted to Francia” for being a kidney donor.
In May of the same year, an interview surfaced in which Raisa’s father, Renan Almendarez Coelho, claimed that his daughter had confronted Gomez about drinking after her transplant.
“It’s different when Selena is drinking,” Coello said on Primer Impact in November 2022. “Francia told Selena that she didn’t give her kidney so she could go out and drink alcohol,” he said.
Raisa was conspicuously absent from Gomez’s star-studded wedding to Blanco, also 37, on September 27 in Santa Barbara, California.
In an interview with Ortiz, Raisa said she was “very happy” about Gomez’s marriage.
“She has a life and she’s already a millionaire. I’m grateful we were able to do that for her,” she said of the transplant.
Celebrities who attended the lavish ceremony included Swift, 35, Martin Short, Steve Martin, Paul Rudd, Nina Dobrev and Ed Sheeran.
The “Bad Blood” singer reportedly gave a speech joking that Gomez would slam her at the altar.
