If Barbie Pink is the summer colour of 2023 and slime green in the summer colour of 2024, it makes sense that evil green will arrive in fall 2024. Dark olive green, a year later – the skin tone of my beloved musical Elfaba is scattered again from sweatpants and nail polish to shoulder bags, to shoulder bags.
The Ariana Grande and Cynthia Eribo stars as Glinda and Elphaba are scheduled to be released next month in the much-anticipated “Evil: Good.” And Universal is not wasting selling films as enthusiastically as they did the first time.
“We live in an environment where monoculture is not happening like before,” Universal’s chief marketing officer Michael Moses told Variety during the onslaught of marketing ahead of the first film. “So you have to be everywhere.”
Of course, not every piece of product or brand apparel is worth buying, just like the saturated marketing moments. Brands sometimes agree to partnerships to make sure they are part of a cultural conversation, but they don’t care much about the specific products they put out. Additionally, the brand knows that, regardless of the product, there is enough “evil” head to fly limited edition items in green and pink colors off the shelf.
