Prince William had an exclusive behind the scenes look on one of the UK’s most iconic television sets.
Back in September, Prince of Wales, 43, who serves as chairman of the British Academy of Film and Arts (BAFTA), visited Bad Wolf Studios in Cardiff.
The surprising visit that William signed up for Doctor Who’s legendary Taldis was recorded with a special message the prince delivered to the BAFTA Cymru Awards on Monday, October 6th.
BAFTA CYMRU is a Welsh BAFTA brand, and the Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram accounts have studio toured William’s videos and shared videos of them meeting trainees at the Bad Wolf’s Alliance Wales (SAW) training initiative.

“Before sharing a special message tonight at the @baftacymru Awards, I spent time at Badwolf Studio Wales in Cardiff, met trainees supported by @Bafta’s Prince of Wales scholarship and Screen Alliance Wales, explored the set of other Bennett sisters and Doctor Who, joined St Albans RC Prime School and attended Captroom Prish School.
“From periods to all time and space, both the BAFTA Scholarship and Bad Wolf Studios are actively inspiring creative talent for the future. Well done to everyone involved and good luck to the candidates tonight!”
In the awards ceremony video, William praised Bafta’s “world-famous talent pipeline” and cited the need for programs like Thor.
“Talent is everywhere, but there’s too often a lack of opportunities,” he said. “Therefore, BAFTA’s scholarship program plays a key role in supporting the next generation of talent and gives young people important support to take that important first step in the career ladder.”
“These scholarships are used to pay for training courses, equipment, relocation fees, etc. Without them, talented people can be locked out of their screen art careers,” he added.
After William’s visit to Bad Wolf, other Bennett’s sister executive producer Jane Tlanter praised it as “a total joy.”
“We are extremely proud of the outreach work being done by Allison Dousell and the Screen Alliance Wales team, and it makes a lot of sense to help Prince William highlight the work being done in the studio,” Tranter said. “He was featured in trainees from a wide range of departments. It was great to see him have such an interest in a new generation of television creatives.”
“We are extremely proud that many of the trainees at SAW will be awarded Prince William Bafta’s scholarships, and his Royal Highness was fascinated by hearing how each trainee uses the scholarship to promote their careers.”

The reveal of William’s visit comes just days after another massive television moment. The Prince recently appeared in Eugene Levy’s Apple TV+ series, The Recrecrant Traveller, for the most in-depth interview of his life.
On the October 3rd episode, William and Levy shared a pint and toured Windsor Castle. William provided surprisingly straightforward answers, from his parents’ divorce to how his children (12-year-old Prince George, 10, 10, 7) dealt with Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis.
He even mentioned his estranged brother Prince Harry, but he recalls how he felt about his George to become King of England.
“It’s an interesting question, and it’s a big question,” William said. “Because there’s a lot to think about.”
He continued.
“I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change is forever,” William added. “And I embrace it and enjoy the change – I’m not afraid of it. It’s a bit that excites me. The idea that it can bring about some kind of change. It’s not an overly radical change, but a change that I think needs to happen.”
