With a laugh at the pain.
Jennifer Lopez awkwardly laughed at questions about Ben Affleck as she promoted her new film, “Kiss of the Spider Woman” on Monday’s “Today” show.
“Your divorce is confirmed alongside Ben while filming this elaborate, beautiful musical…” Host Craig Melvin began before the singer gave off an unpleasant laugh.
She then looks at the production team behind the camera, pointing out Melvin’s boldness and says, “I’ll go there. Look at this guy!”
Embarrassingly, Melvin tried to correct the situation by saying, “But I’ve heard that your ex is the executive producer of the film…”
“He,” Lopez, 56, confirmed before praising her ex-husband.
“If it wasn’t for Ben, the film wouldn’t have been made and I’ll always give him that credit,” she said more seriously before referring to their divorce.
Despite working with Affleck on the film, the Grammy nominee admitted that the musical helped “survive” the “difficult” time in her life.
“But it’s funny, films are about escapism. It’s about how film and art save us in the most difficult times of our lives. And doing this project really made it happen to me to survive the difficult moments of my life, for me, for me and for my life.”
“(The movie) may have helped save you,” Melvin said.
Lopez’s comments about Affleck come for over a year after she filed for divorce with their short union.
The former couple filmed “Giguri” in 2001, and then filmed “Giguri” a year later, crossing the path before they got engaged. But by 2004 they had gone their separate ways.
The A-listers plunged fans into frenzy when they rekindled their romance in 2021. For 20 years they lived completely separate lives, welcoming their children along with other spouses.
They then married at a Vegas ceremony in July 2022, then held a bigger wedding in Georgia a month later.
The singer filed for divorce on August 20, 2024 after discovering Affleck looked miserable in various outings with Lopez. At the time, the “Gone Girl” actors left the house and they lived separate lives.
They were finalised their divorce six months later.
Last month, sources claimed that the exe has “still remained on friendly terms” since its disbandment.
“What’s good between Ben and Jennifer, even though they’re not together anymore,” a source told people on September 8th.
The insider also insisted that the duo “will stay in each other’s lives” because “the most important thing for them is raising their children in a supportive environment.”
Lopez shares twins named Emme and Max, 17, with ex-husband Mark Anthony, with Affleck sharing 19, Seraphina (16), and Samuel (13), with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
The “On the Floor” diva made a headline last month to go shopping with her ex-husband’s youngest child in Beverly Hills, California.
“The kids are still really close,” the outlet reported. “They have the same group of friends, they look at each other and they talk all the time.”
They also insisted that Lopez and Affleck “make sure the kids get along well.”
