Netflix has chosen four of the most anticipated titles for Mostra SP, consisting of the epic “Frankenstein” by Guillermo del Toro, the Sao Paulo International Film Festival in Brazil, and “Jay Kelly” by Noah Baumbach.
“This is our strongest participation since we launched our partnership with Mostra,” said Elizabetta Zenatti, Brazil’s vice president of content.
Speaking about Mostra, set in the Brazilian premiere of Frankenstein, Delotoro said: It’s a very meaningful stage and I look forward to seeing how this film about father and son connects with the Brazilians. ”

“Brazilian cinemas are always revitalizing themselves. There has always been a huge vitality, a generation after the filmmakers. Now it is finding a new voice, a new voice that will engage with the world without losing its unique cultural roots. Brazilian films have always been diverse, political, poetic, and profound people.”
Netflix also highlights its support for the Brazilian film industry at its Netflix Award. This will be the third edition, which will be featured in an independent Brazilian film. “By appreciating Brazilian films, we open the door for talent, share the story with the world, which strengthens the entire country’s audiovisual ecosystem,” Zenatti said.
Created to elevate Brazilian cinemas on the global stage, the initiative highlights the country’s most original voice in fiction filmmaking. Each year, ju-describers and invited guests, made up of Netflix executives, select one Brazilian fiction film from a festival that has not yet been streaming contracts.
Netflix will then acquire distribution rights and make the winning movie available in over 190 countries. By opening international doors for both new and established filmmakers, the award will enhance support for Netflix’s creative community and boost the global reach of Brazilian storytelling.
Previous winners include Harold Borges’ Bittersweet Rain in 2023 and Lilio Ferreira’s Cera das Armas in 2024.
Netflix first joined Mostra in 2018 with Roma from Alfonso Cuarón. However, 2025 is the third mark in the official partnership. In 2023, he awarded the Netflix Award to “Bittersweet Rain” (“Saudade Fez Morada Aqui Dentro”) and performed the premiere of “Maestro” by Bradley Cooper in Brazil.
In 2024, Netflix brought three original productions to Mostra. The US title is “Piano Lesson,” Mexico’s “Pedro Paramo,” and Brazil’s limited edition series, Children of the Church Steps.
“Independent cinemas in Brazil have always relied on word of mouth to reach their audience. Having “Saudad Morada Aqui Dentrow” on Netflix makes that word of mouth possible.”
As the northeastern part of Brazil (a region not normally depicted in non-Brazilian films), it is inspiring to see our accents, landscapes and lifestyles on screens around the world. It promotes the desire to make more films and take up space on the screen,” he added.
“Since the film premiered on Netflix, international consumption has led to several interesting moments,” he continued. “The edited cuts from the film have become a social media trend with millions of perspectives and interactions. (Actor) Will Mamaked received countless love notes from Turkish fans. The French actor called Ronnie (actor Ronna Ligomez) went to social media after his success in France to present himself. The film presents a diverse Sertão, full of musical styles like Paseiro, Paredão and Forró.
