Eric Dane finally revealed why he missed the “Grey’s Anatomy” reunion at this year’s Emmy Awards.
“ALS is a troublesome disease,” Dane, who announced that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in April, told the Washington Post Thursday.
“So I was in the hospital during Emmys and I put stitches on my head,” he shared, adding that he was “really upset” about how it didn’t exist for now.
But he also realised, “There was nothing I could do about it.”
Dane, 52, was originally scheduled to appear on the awards show as a presenter alongside her former “Glaze” co-star Jesse Williams, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the medical drama.
“I missed an opportunity that I really look forward to,” the actor who portrayed Dr. Mark Sloan in the series told the outlet.
“It would have been great to meet Jesse and be reunited with some of my peers, and to be able to compete in front of my colleagues was a special moment.”
Williams awarded the best director in a drama series, without mentioning Dane or the hit ABC series.
However, he gushed out about his longtime friends on the red carpet before the show.
“He’s solid. The man is just solid. We have to be careful. You know, he’s in the perfect balance just like men take care of themselves.”
According to Mayo Clinic, ALS is a “neurological disease that affects neurons in the brain and spinal cord,” leading to a “loss of muscle control,” which progresses over time.
In June, the “Euphoria” star revealed that he had been diagnosed with illness after “starting to experience some weaknesses in my right hand.”
“At the time I had no idea about it,” the actor explained to Diane Sawyer in “Good Morning America.”
“I thought maybe I was texting too many times or my hands were tired. But a few weeks later I realized that it had gotten a bit worse.”
Still, Dane has not disappointed the illness. According to sources.
“He really knows that tomorrow is not a promise and wants to enjoy what he has now,” an insider told the Daily Mail Tuesday.
“He wants to live life and does not want people to grieve him while he is experiencing this terrible illness. He wants people in his life to exist.
