Spoiler Alert: This story describes the major plot developments for episode 6, season 2 of “Peacemaker,” currently streaming on HBO Max.
James Gunn said in a new interview with GQ Magazine that he heard from “a few racists” after “Peacemaker” dropped the bomb Nazi twist in season 2 episode 6. Yes, cancer’s new DCU has a planet run by the Nazi. The second season of “Peacemaker” was set after Gunn’s “Superman,” with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor making a cameo on the show recently.
“I really do whatever I want to do with “Peace Maker.” In other words, I can make my own choices and create my own boss, so I do whatever I want to do. “We’ve received a lot of pushbacks from various sources within the structure, especially in this episode. “We’re not embarrassed about this. Let’s talk about what we want to do. There’s no need to pull a punch.”
“And that’s funny. There weren’t any of that kind of thing… there are a few racists who call me polarised, but I’m fine with polarising and letting the racists fall on the roadside,” added Gunn. “It’s exciting because people love this episode the most… Listen… we deal with very sensitive subjects. We deal with racism. At the same time, there’s humor in this episode. So, you’re not sensitive about it, but I don’t think we’re thinking about it.”
After the episode airs, we talk to variety shows. Gunn held his own private test screening of “Peace Maker” Season 2 to see if anyone would notice some of the information scattered throughout the episodes revealed by the big Nazis. The most notable information is that Earth X contains only white people.
“No one noticed,” Gunn said. “And it was people of color, too. By the way, it wasn’t just white people.”
As Gunn explained, some internet detectives end up noticing all the white Earth X. “One person out of the millions watching the show online said, “Wait a minute, what is this in an alternative world? We’ve got a lot of comments from people who were surprised.
“Peacemaker” will drop a new episode on HBO Max on Thursday.
