“The Ultimatum: Queer Love” was cancelled on Netflix after two seasons.
The real-life dating series is part of Netflix’s “Ultimatum” franchise, which began in April 2022 with “The Ultimatum: Marry or More On.” The original series is still ongoing and was renewed into the fourth season earlier this year. Netflix has also released the season for “The Ultimatum” in France and South Africa.
Both “marriage or moving” and “queer Arab” chase five to six couples per season, and “queer Arab” couples consist of all women and non-binary people. In each couple, one partner is ready to get married and issues the ultimate to the other partner. Cast members leave their partners and go on a week’s date before choosing someone from another couple and entering the three-week “trial marriage.” They then reunite with their former partner for another three weeks. At the end of the season, each cast member must decide whether to pursue marriage with his former partner, return to his court spouse, or leave him alone.
Season 1 of “Ultimate: Queer Love” premiered in May 2024 and spent two weeks in Netflix’s Top 10. Season 2 premiered in June this year, reaching individual charts from five countries, but did not create a global top 10.
“The Ultimatum: Queer Love” was created by Chris Coelen, who is produced by an executive through production company Kinetic Content. In addition to the “ultimatum,” Cohen and the company are best known for their ongoing “Love Is Blind” franchise and “Perfect Match” on Netflix, and for their “look” run in the first four seasons of FYI before moving to Peacock on Day 19 through Season 18 after running in their first four seasons on A&E’s FYI network.
