Charlie McDermott (“Middle”), Vanessa Marano (“Gilmore Girls” and “Switch at birth”), John Ross Bowie (“Speechless”, “Big Bang Theory”) are stars of the indie drama “Petunia,” written and directed by emerging film director Alec C. Cohen.
“Petunia” follows Alex and Lily, a young couple whose beloved cat becomes seriously ill. “As they rush to raise funds, the film’s logline said, “Pressures put a rift in their relationship and tests the limits of love, sacrifice and resilience towards the background of their financial burden.”
The film stars Joshua Barge (“The Revenant”), Lucy Loken (“Young Sheldon”), Lana McKissack (“Countdown”), Joy Branson (“This is Us”), Devon Verkäser (“Ned’s Confidential School Survival Guide”), Chris Candy (“Space Ball”), and “Transracer”).
“Petunia is about the impossible choices young people face when love clashes with the harsh reality of money,” Cohen said in a statement. “It’s a story about resilience, the bonds that form with animals that become family, and the meaning of embracing each other when the world feels like it’s falling apart.”
Cohen independently funded and produced films. He previously directed several short films (including a proof-of-concept version of “Petunia,” in which he starred) as well as commercials that included work for the NFL, Netflix and Team Deakins. David Hemphill (via Nancy Boy Corporation) and Colter Kozal are producers and Paul Ruddy Casting.
