Eugenio Derbez Project’s first English director debut

Multihyphenate, Mexican Eugenio Derbez, chairman of 3PAS Studios and co-founder, found three events rather than three at Iberseries & Platino Industrial in Madrid, highlighting the impact of his work on the world stage.

In his keynote speech on Thursday, he came up with how he invaded Hollywood with his directorial debut feature “no instructions” for 30 years at Biz, and plans for his company to navigate the fast-changing viewing habits.

Along with 3PAS Studios partner Ben Odell, he said they are now heading towards plans to continue to create features and series, not only manipulate new digital formats to maintain lights.

He is currently focusing on two possible projects that he oversees in English. “I’m drawn to making dramas. You can’t really separate comedies from dramas,” he said.

After “No instructions included,” he recently conducted the pilot and final episode of 3PAS’ international Emmy Award-nominated series, “They Come Come In at Night” (“Y Llegaron de noche”).

In his keynote address, he spoke about how his brand of humor has learned the difficult way of not traveling past the Mexican border.

“Currently, using streaming platforms distributed worldwide requires creating shows with a wider and more universal appeal,” he said. But local stories can work as long as they resonate emotionally, he said. Quoting hits like “Squid Game”, “Roma”, “Parasite”

Navigating business in Hollywood meant reinventing yourself so that you don’t get surrounded by comedic roles. Starting his own production company allowed him to create “Radical.” This was shelved for 10 years until “Coda”, where “Coda” played a highly supportive role, won the best photos and opened the door for a more dramatic role.

“Comedies may be more difficult to make, but they’re not appreciated,” he said. I cited comics like Robin Williams, who had to look to the drama to get Oscar’s recognition.

After I created “radicals,” I began to gain more respect.

Looking back at the appearance of AI, he sees it as a double-edged sword. While it may help make using expensive VFX much easier, these shows have no soul, although they are made by humans.

“They may be great, but AI doesn’t achieve the same results as human intelligence, so you can see the actors playing the set,” he said.

He also presented what he would do in “The Trial” (“El Juicio”), produced by 3PAS, his first dramatic role in the series, which is likely to start streaming on Prime Video by next year. He stars alongside lead Pedro Alonso from “Money Heist.” The 8-episode series is based on real cases of sexual abuse inspired by real events that took place in Mexico. The plot follows a young woman and her father in a fight for justice after surviving the sexual assault.

Daniel Krause (“Candidate”, Louis Miguel: Series”) was a co-produced showrunner led by Amazon MGM Studios, 3PAS Studios, and Visceral and Retrieved Entertainment.

Derbez also announced season 5 of “Derbez Family Vacation” (De Viaje Con Los Derbez). “Season 1 was almost about to break up my family,” he told Variety. Derbez and his family also announced the launch of Studio Drbz, a digital studio aimed at Hispanic audiences in Latin America and the US.
