Prince William confirmed that his father, King Charles III, and his wife, Kate Middleton, were simultaneously diagnosed with cancer.
In a preview of Prince of Wales’ Apple TV+’s “Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy,” William said he was “good luck” because his family didn’t have many illnesses.
“My grandparents lived until the 90s,” the three fathers mentioned Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the grandparents of their late father who died in September 2022 and April 2021, respectively.
“They were a vision of fitness, stoicism and resilience if you liked it. So we were very fortunate as a family,” added William, 43.
“But if you’re a phirical rug, when you suddenly realize that the rug can always pull from under your feet pretty quickly.”
William said he didn’t think both his wife and father would be diagnosed with cancer within the next few months of each other.
“Maybe think of it yourself, ‘It won’t happen to us, we’re fine,’ he shared.
“I think everyone has a positive view, so you have to be positive. But when it happens to you, it takes you to some pretty great places,” William said.
The royal family was shaken by health issues last year when it announced that 76-year-old Charles and 43-year-old Middleton had been diagnosed with cancer.
In February 2024, Buckingham Palace announced that the monarch learned of his diagnosis after undergoing procedures for benign prostate enlargement.
The following month, Princess of Wales released a video, saying she was in the early stages of chemotherapy treatment.
Middleton completed her chemotherapy treatment in September 2024, and four months later she revealed in a long statement that she was cancer-free.
“I’m continuing to focus on recovery,” she wrote in January. “As anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis knows, adjustments take time.”
Middleton has slowly resumed his royal role over the past few months, attending police at banquets in June and in the UK states.
Meanwhile, in September, Charles shared a rare update on his health, saying “it’s not too bad.”
Season 3, episode 4, “The Reuctant Traveller with Eugene Levy,” premieres on Apple TV Friday.
