Emmy-winning producer Ryan Murphy has been married to photographer David Miller since 2012.
Murphy is the creative force behind shows such as Glee, American Horror Story, Monster, and upcoming American Love Story. Like her husband, Miller has a background in the production, but is now a photographer.
The couple met in 2010 and got married two years later. Now they are splitting time between their Los Angeles and New York homes with their three sons.
“He’s a rock from Gibraltar,” Murphy told Vogue in 2012. “Incredibly kind and very wise and not interested in celebrities, money or fame.
He continued, “When I was like a balloon without a tether, at some point in my life, what I needed was, “Sit down, close f. You’re wrong. Humble. Let’s be wise. That was David.”

Before the photo was on work, Miller spent 10 years as a commercial location manager, scouting locations for companies such as Nike, Ford and Toyota. He also worked with advertising agencies and production companies.
In 2023, Miller produced Hulu Documentary We Live Here: The Midwest. This examined the lives of LGBTQ+ people who work to make their home state a safer space for their families and strange communities. He also produces two independent films, denies gravity and Em&Me.

“I was with David, so Ryan just made her love for his heart so much,” Michele, who worked with Murphy at Glee, told Vogue in 2012 in 2012. “In the past few months, I have seen such joy and excitement at Ryan.”
She said, “And I just know they will become the most incredible parents. I’m incredibly jealous that I’m not their daughter, because Murphy’s house will become my dream.”

Murphy told Vogue that the pair tied up early in their relationships around childhood and their desire for children.
“We both had really been growing up difficult and turbulently. It’s not a way to heal it… but definitely a way to explore it,” he said. “And again, I thought I was 46 years old if I didn’t do this… I’d really, really regret it.”

The couple welcomed their three sons through deputies. Logan was born on December 24, 2012, and Ford joined the family on October 3, 2014. Murphy and Miller’s youngest son, Griffin, was born on August 18, 2020.
“It’s so emotional. I’ve always been so surprised at how emotional it is,” Murphy shared with people in October 2014 shortly after Ford’s birth. “As a gay guy, I didn’t think I had a family, so that’s why I have two children… I’m married… that’s so overwhelming for me.”

Murphy was open about her health fears when Ford was a toddler, when the baby stopped breathing in the middle of the night due to a previously undiagnosed tracheal problem.
“We called 911. We were clearly in panic, doing CPR and showed up at 2am,” Murphy shared on the 9-1-1 panel in 2018, years after the incident. “We had four responders. They were incredibly calm and raised. They were forced to leave my room. They brought him back to life.”
When Ford was two years old, he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma and, according to his father, had a tumor the size of a tennis ball in his abdomen. Murphy marked the boy’s fourth birthday in a post celebrating his health improvements and an announcement of a $10 million donation to Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
“My better half, David Miller, was a rock through this – strong, patient, loving (I was always a trembling wreck),” Murphy writes.
“Ford is strong and thriving today. He’s just celebrated his fourth birthday. It’s a milestone that we’re all very excited about. Ford is doing very well for Los Angeles, a children’s hospital.”
