Director Janchivdorj Sengedorj’s “Silent City Driver” was chosen to represent Mongolia in the best international feature film category at the 98th Academy Awards.
This decision was made by the national national selection committee.
“Silent City Driver” continues with Myagmar. Myagmar is A. It was played by Tuvshinbayar. Alienated, suffering from kidney failure, unable to reconnect, he evacuates stray dogs, occasionally seeking anonymous encounters, finds work as a spiritual seg driver. There he crosses the path with the blind ffin maker, his daughter Saruru, and the Buddhist monk K, and thinks he is tentatively seeking red. The story takes a darker turn as Saruul becomes a victim of a horrifying mail, and Myagmar faces the limits of forgiveness, leading to catastrophic choices.
“Silent City Driver” built momentum on the festival circuit, winning the Grand Prix for Best Film and Best Production Design at Tallinn Black Night in 2024, and won the Purple Mulberry at the 2025 Italian Udin Far East Film Festival.
Sengedorj’s previous film, “The Sales Girl,” in 2022, won an Audience Award for Udine, in addition to his best film at the Vesoul Asian Film Festival.
Mongolia has submitted films to the Oscar since 2003, but has not yet landed the nomination. The 2023 entry, “City of Wind,” premiered in Venice, but did not make any finalists. Last year’s entry, “If I Can Hibernate,” made its debut at Cannes and did not advance to the Oscar nominee list.
The Oscar International feature summary will be announced on December 16th, with the last five candidates announced on January 22nd.
