Indie I Productions, an Emmy-winning costume led by Sergio Guerrero Garzafox, joined forces with Spanish EFD Studios and Mexican AG Media to co-produce the four-part docudrama, Colon: Mitos y Origen (Columbus: Myth and Origin).
The project aims to resume the true identity of Christopher Columbus, one of the most enduring mysteries of history.
Combining investigative journalism, DNA analysis and film dramatization, Doxalies examines four competing theories about Columbus’ origins and mysteries regarding the title given to him by the Catholic monarch.
Under development, the series is scheduled to be filmed across Spain, Mexico and Portugal in 2026, counting at 55% of funding already secured.
The series was produced by Guerrero Garzafox and Joan Carls Martrell at Indie Eye and EFD Studios Georgina Terran and Deme Naranjo, with Ricardo Lamas attached as the author.
Guerrero Garzafox, who won the Los Angeles-area Emmy for “Gracias Maestros,” will oversee and serve as the showrunner.
“This project dares to revisit universal figures with the tools of modern research and the power of film storytelling,” he told Variety. “By integrating rigorous research with emotional docudrama, it offers viewers a thrilling way to rediscover history.”
In the words of Guerrero Garza Fox, Indie Eye “focuses on bold and internationally related stories that mix entertainment and cultural and historical depth series and films that stimulate accepted narratives and global conversations.”
Garzafox is a “Mexican-free Day,” co-author of immigration satire, and as a showrunner, he has worked on series such as Fox’s “Dos Lunas” and NBC’s “El Vato.”
The co-production partnership highlights the international scope of the project. EFD Studios, a leading production services company operating in Spain, Mexico, Colombia and the US, is currently building what is described as Europe’s largest LED volume stage in Bodilla del Monte, Madrid.
Meanwhile, AG Media brings expertise in digital content and 3D animation and offers local production support in Mexico.
The producers are applying for Spanish and Mexican audiovisual incentives, along with submissions to the Creative European media, with the aim of raising funds.
“Columbus: Myths and Origins” will be pitched on October 1st at a co-production forum, part of the Iberseries & Platino Industry 2025.
