Scad Savannah Film Festival has presented “Eternity,” “Song Sung Blue,” and “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” as the opening, centerpiece and closing gala presentations of this year’s 28th annual event.
This year’s edition will open on Saturday, October 25th, with a screening of the A24 drama “Eternity,” directed by David Freyne. The film stars Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Terror and Calm Turner in a story set in the Afterlife, with the soul having a week to choose eternal destiny. Teller will receive the Distinguished Performance Award following a screening announced by his co-star and fellow recipient of Oscar, Da’vine Joy Randolph (“The Holdovers”).
The festival’s Centerpiece Gala, set on Thursday, October 30th, features the highly anticipated focus feature film “Song Sung Blue,” written and directed by Craig Brewer. Based on a true story, Film Stars Academy Award nominee Hugh Jackman (“Les McCerable”) and Kate Hudson (“Les McCertified”) as struggling musicians to reform themselves as Neil Diamond’s tribute law. Brewer is awarded the Spotlight Director Award. Brewer, known for his musically infused storytelling, previously directed hits such as “Hustle and Flow” and “Dolmite is My Name.”
Closing the festival on Saturday, November 1st is Netflix’s third film in Whodunit franchise Wake Up Dead Man, directed by Academy Award-nominated Rian Johnson (Knives Out and Glass Onion). The latest in the Benoit Blanc Detective series stars Daniel Craig along with an all-star ensemble cast including Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kelly Washington and Andrew Scott. Johnson earns outstanding achievements in awarding awards for his contributions to contemporary film. In addition to the Knife Out series, Johnson has created a series of highly acclaimed projects, including “Looper,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” and the hit television series “Poker Face.”
Other previously announced winners include Jennifer Lopez of “The Spider Woman Kiss” and John M. Chu, director of “Evil: For Good.” Variety will also host the fourth annual 10 artisans, moderated by artisan editor Jazz Tankei, along with “Pixels and Pencils,” to highlight the animated film and its director, and will be hosted by Chief Awards editor Clayton Davis.
