I want to walk this way with FX. Basic Cableter officially offers pilot orders to comedy “Very Young Frankenstein”.
The project was originally reported to be in work in June. The pilot stars Zach Galifianakis (“Hangover”, FX’s “Basket”), Dolly Wells (“Doll & M”, “The Man in the Inner”), Spencer House (“Lies”, “Society”), Nicky Crawford (“Fat Ham” on Broadway, “Cruel Life”) and Kmile Nanjian the Thyricon”. Reportedly starring Cary Elwes (Robin Hood: The Man in Tights, Princess Bride).
The exact plot details are kept under the rap, except for the fact that the pilot is inspired by Mel Brooks Jane Wilder’s film Young Frankenstein. Details of the character are similarly under the rap, but sources say that Galifianakis will play Dr. Frankenstein. It has also been reported previously that Elwes will play the US president. If the show is selected for the series, it will air on Hulu.
“Very Young Frankenstein” comes from writer Stefani Robinson, and the executive produces alongside Taika Waitty and Garrett Bash. All three are alumni of the hit FX comedy series, What We Do in Shadows. Waititi will also lead the pilot. Brooks, who co-wrote and directed the film, will be executive produced, as well as Kevin Salter and Michael Gruskov. Salter is a producer partner of Brooks, with Gruskoff producing the original film. The 20th TV is the studio.
Galianakis is represented by Brillstein Entertainment Partners UTA and Barnes, Levine and Yorn. Nanjiani is represented by Mosaic, UTA and Origin Pr. Crawford is represented by artists and representatives, and Zachary’s home is represented by Gersh. Wells is represented by the UTA in the US and is independent in the UK, with manager Heather Nun. Elwes is represented by lawyers at UK IAG, Link Entertainment, Lev Ginsburg and Hamilton Hodell.
“Young Frankenstein” premiered love from both critics and audiences in 1974. It is widely cited as one of the most entertaining American films ever made. Wilder starred as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (or Fronk en Steen), grandson of Victor Frankenstein. When he inherits his Transylvanian grandfather’s estate, Frederick finds himself drawn to continuing his predecessor’s job, reviving the dead.
The cast also included Chloris Leachman, Marty Feldman, Terry Garr, Madeline Kahn, Peter Boyle and Kenneth Mars. Gene Hackman also makes a brief appearance in the film as a blind man who meets Frankenstein’s monster.
